ORANGE SHIRT DAY SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 29 at 9:00 a.m.
In the spirit of reconciliation and the Calls To Act established by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Sunday Worship on September 29, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. will honour the victims and survivors of the Residential Schools system and the impact of their legacy on First Nations. Phyllis Webstad, a Residential School survivor, was sent to St Joseph's Residential School located outside of Williams Lake, B.C., at the age of six. Her grandmother bought her an orange shirt to wear on her first day of school. Upon arrival at the school, the authorities took away Phyllis' new orange shirt, which was never returned. National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Saturday, September 28, 2024
A grassroots community group in Chelsea called "Truth and Reconciliation- Chelsea" is working with Gilbert Whiteduck, Algonquin Anishinabeg Elder, to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Please, save the date and join us in honouring the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Date: Saturday, September 28, 2024 Time: 3:00-5:30 p.m. Location: Meredith Centre This event is free of charge. All are welcome. During the event, the 94 Calls To Action prepared by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, will be read aloud.
Tailgate Sale and Book Sale June 1, 2024
On a glorious summer day, St Mary Mary Magdalene Church hosted the Tailgate Sale and Book Sale . More than thirty vendors, including the Gatineau Valley Gardeners, QUAIL, an Eritrean basket-maker , and a beekeeper, sold their wares. Lilly Bean's Bistro Mexicano served scrumptious tacos and burrito bowls. The SMM Church Bake Table continued their tradition as a "crowd pleaser" with home-made desserts and treats. Silent Movie “The Kid” with Andreea Arbone April 27, 2024
Andreea Arbone, violinist and owner of La Petite Fanfare performed the accompaniment for the silent movie by Charlie Chaplin, "The Kid" on April 27, 2024. The proceeds from the movie night that totaled more than $1000 were donated to the Wakefield Food Pantry. A special thanks to our volunteers, Yan Arbone, Jake Blair, Brigitte Desmeules, Shelley Druce, Daphne Fry, Donald Lemaire, Marian McGrath and John Shearman.
Fond Farewell for Rev. Canon Kevin Flynn
On April 13, 2024 members of the Parish of Chelsea- Lascelles- Wakefield expressed their appreciation for the contribution that Father Kevin made to the life of the Parish. The church hall at St Mary Magdalene Church was filled with representatives of the three churches: St Mary Magdalene (Chelsea), Holy Trinity (Lascelles) and Good Shepherd (Wakefield) , who joined in the festivities. At the farewell party, Father Kevin received thoughtful gifts, great food and very kind words. Thank you, Father Kevin. God bless!
