In the spirit of reconciliation and the Calls To Act established by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Sunday Worship on September 29, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. will honour the victims and survivors of the Residential Schools system and the impact of their legacy on First Nations. Phyllis Webstad, a Residential School survivor, was sent to St Joseph’s Residential School located outside of Williams Lake, B.C., at the age of six. Her grandmother bought her an orange shirt to wear on her first day of school. Upon arrival at the school, the authorities took away Phyllis’ new orange shirt, which was never returned. This traumatic experience inspired Phyllis to establish Orange Shirt Day on September 30th, the day that she was sent to a Residential School, to commemorate the intergenerational trauma caused to First Nations by the Residential School system.
