St Mary Magdalene Church will honour the children and the survivors, who attended Residential Schools, by marking Orange Shirt Day and the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 25, 2022. At the Service Father Kevin Flynn will present a ceramic White Feather to the congregation. The White Feather was a gift to all of the Parishes in Anglican Diocese of Ottawa by Kirstin Davidson, the artist, who created the outdoor art installation called “Populace” in 2017 that marked 150th anniversary of confederation. The White Feather was chosen with the Algonquin community as a symbol of their presence at the time of confederation.

As was written by Debbie Grisdale, the co-chair of the All My Relations Circle in 2019:

“The hope behind this gift is that the feathers will be accepted to show a commitment to building relationships with First Nations People in the Ottawa area in a new way and to symbolize the church and congregation’s journey towards truth, justice and  reconciliation.”

Everyone is welcome to attend this Service. If you are able, please, wear an orange shirt.
