On June 10, 2023 Gilbert Whiteduck, elder and former chief of Kitigan Zibi, led a meditative walk beginning and ending at St Mary Magdalene church to raise awareness of the journey to reconciliation. The Meditative Walk was an opportunity for the official opening and naming of the community trail “Nakweyamàdiwin Mikàns” . Gilbert Whiteduck was accompanied by René Racine, a drummer from Kitigan Zibi. The following dignitaries attended the event: Sophie Chatel, Member of Parliament, Robert Bussière, Member National Assembly, Marc Carrière, Prefect, and Kim Chan, Deputy Mayor for Chelsea. Rev. Canon Kevin Flynn spoke about the background to the construction and naming of the path. Approximately 150 people participated in the walk and afterwards enjoyed refreshments, including cedar tea and bannock, prepared by Donna and George Jerome from Kitigan Zibi.
