After the blessing of the community trail by Bishop Shane and Albert Dumont, Algonquin Elder, on July 18, 2021, Albert Dumont was asked whether he could propose an Algonquin Anishinabeg name for our trail. Two weeks later Albert proposed the following name:

Nakweyamàdiwin Mikàns

The name means “Le sentier de l’amitié / Friendship Trail” .

The submission was made in accordance with “La Politique des noms commémoratifs“. The committee accepted the proposal and referred it to the Municipal Council for final approval. The name was published on October 18, 2021 on the Municipal website for public consultation for 60 days.

After the 60 day public consultation period expires, the Municipal Council will officially approve the name.
